Arcella

"Arcella"


This is a photo of Arcella, a common "shelled" amoeba. Arcella uses bits of debris to build the shell you see. It takes very careful observation to actually see this creature move. There are many amoebas found in pond water, however, most of them are small and unobtrusive like this one.
